Vemcare huntington chair in very strong artificial leather

Vemcare Huntington Chair: more than 500,000 rubs

Because of the intensive and strong movements of clients with Huntington's disease, most common fabrics wear out very quickly.

Most fabrics undergo the Martindale Test to check their durability and suitability. The test is also known as the Rub Test and it tests for abrasion. The test gives a score in 1000′s of rubs, referring to their number of rubs made before three threads of the fabric are broken. Domestic fabrics often have a rating of up to 20,000 rubs. Generally, the higher the figure the more suitable the fabric for heavy usage.

The Dutch standard KIM (KIM stands for Information Quality Upholstery) uses the Martindale Test for the following categories:

  • Decorative use up to 6,000 rubs;
  • Light residential use from 6,000 to 10,000 rubs;
  • Normal residential use from 10,000 to 15,000 rubs;
  • Intensive residential use from 15,000 to 20,000 rubs;
  • Intensive residential use + works from 20,000 rubs.
